Lab time will also encompass training on torch cutting, fabrication techniques, tolerances, measurements, machine operation and maintenance. Students will have the opportunity at the end of their training to test in accordance with the appropriate industry codes (AWS, ASME). Upon successful completion of the course and the certification test, the student will receive a welder’s certification record reflecting the parameters for which they are qualified to weld.
The student’s classroom time will begin with a focus on welding fundamentals to include safety, equipment used for the various welding processes, and electrical principles related to welding. Each welding process will be covered in depth using a combination of hands-on, media, and visual aids to ensure the student comprehends the instruction and requirements in the lab.
Additionally, students can ask their teachers for help creating a resume, basic job searching techniques and information on career paths within the industry. In addition, the teachers and staff will let students know of any openings that they know of that the student will qualify for. Teachers and staff can also reach out to their contacts to inquire about openings.
